As of today, there are 132 "Pueblos Magicos", or Magical Towns, in Mexico. The closest, and only one located along the U.S.-Mexico border, is Tecate. The designation comes at high honor and is awarded to communities that maintain their original architecture, traditions, history, and culture.
So, what exactly is a Magical Town? It is a site or town with symbols, urban legends, and culture that in many cases have seen and lived iconic events in Mexico's history. They are places that exhibit Mexican identity and traditions in each of their corners-- with magic emanating from its attractions.
This week, the "Tianguis Turístico de Pueblos Mágicos", a platform for commercial exchange, was held to highlight each magical town's tourist attractions.
Tecate was featured and highlighted for its gastronomic options for regional and modern cuisine. Both national and foreign tourists recommended visiting restaurants such as "El Lugar de Nos", "Asao", "Santuario Diegueño", "Amores"; among others.
As we learned, the farms and spas located in Tecate are another reason to make your way over to this magical place! Rancho La Puerta was named “the best spa in the world” for the fifth consecutive year.
If you are a nature lover, the mountains in Tecate offer a variety of hiking options, with over 14 trails in the region. For example, the "Cerro Bola" trail is suitable for beginners as it has two paths to choose from. Making it to the summit is the cherry on top, with incomparable views of the orange sunset.
And speaking of the outdoors, adventure is Tecate's middle name! From rappelling in La Rumorosa, a unique place with an imposing rocky composition, or scrambling on routes such as the "Borrego Cimarrón", "Eye of the Eagle" and the "Gray Fox". Tecate truly has it all: magnificent landscapes, excellent weather, and countless things to do.
