November 26, 2021“Winter Birds” in San Felipe
Every year North Americans and Canadians flock down to San Felipe. The reason: To flee the low temperatures and chaos that is the winter holiday season.During the colder seasons "Winter Birds", as our guests have been nicknamed, arrive by the thousands. These groups of foreigners, mostly retired, spend several months enjoying San Felipe-- usually from October to April.
Daytime temperatures in this season average at 70 degrees, which is the perfect temperature for sunbathing and recharging with a dose of vitamin D.
Many have their own homes in this port and others come here in their mobile homes. This community of foreigners has become so involved in the daily life of San Felipe that they are considered family by the locals.
Traditionally, during November, a local “Winter Birds” event is held. The event was created to welcome our visitors with an artistic program that includes dances, music, and the appointment of “Mr. and Mrs. Winter Bird."
First-time American visitors are usually struck by the proximity since the drive from San Diego to San Felipe takes about 4 1/2 hours. Although most visitors enter through the Calexico border port, which is closer to 2 hours and 20 minutes of travel time.
Before heading down south, we suggest that all foreigners review documentation required by Mexican authorities to ensure that their stay in our country is legal. This information can be obtained on the National Institute of Immigration (INM) website.
If you are in need of a change of scenery and climate this winter season, San Felipe is one of the best options to get away at a low cost.
We can't wait to see you in San Felipe!
